Mission:
Our mission is to walk alongside families in the lifelong pursuit of knowledge and truth through the study and inquiry of the foundational ideas that have shaped our world. We strive to provide social science resources that are written in both bilingual and analytical manners and which are aimed to increase cultural knowledge and understanding.
Vision:
We hope to inspire and equip parents and children to debate challenging topics by providing social sciences’ resources that are bilingual and analytical. By learning a language in context, one learns perspective and to understand other cultures; and by learning the foundations of analytical thinking, one learns to critically analyze what happened, who was involved, where it happened, when it happened, and most importantly, why it happened.
About the Founder
Hi and welcome, my name is Bianca! I am the founder of PoT Press, and a mother of three beautiful homeschooled girls in the state of Virginia.
I do hope you are wondering who I am and why you should trust me because that’s the first thing I personally read about a curriculum provider for my own children: who are you, what is your background, and why should I trust you?
In short: I am originally from Minas Gerais, Brazil and I do in fact cook like a countryside Mineira – yes, I can share my pão de queijo recipe. As a result, Brazilian Portuguese is my native language. I learned English as a teenager, and Spanish & French during college.
Beyond that, my true academic background includes a bachelors in International Affairs from the George Washington University, and a Masters in Intelligence from Georgetown University. Both degrees were fueled by my interest in languages, geopolitics, economics, and a never-ending desire to learn about the world, the people in it, their customs, stories, food and traditions.
Although I love my area of study, I shifted focus from the labor force focused on the above interests in order to focus on my three beautiful magnum opus (“great work” as said by Charlotte A. Cavatica). Yet, my mind couldn’t stop thinking of all the cool things the girls and I could learn together about the world, and of course, that this was my one and only opportunity to ensure they learned their heritage language: Portuguese!
And that’s the short story of how Pillars of Thought Press was born: a mom with insatiable desire to learn more about the world around us, its people, customs, heritage, and like a good Mineira: their food.
